Question: Are there calling cards available for cruise ships &/or a way to make a phone call & not pay per minute? I'm leaving for a cruise to Mexico this Sunday. The cruise line is Royal Caribbean. I'm trying to figure out what the phone call/WiFi situation is going to be. My sister & I have conflicting information in regards to the WiFi - I found something saying it costs 55 cents/minute or you can buy one of their lovely packages ranging up to $60/150 minutes. She says it's free. So if anyone knows which one is correct that'd be greatly appreciated.
Also, I have a Blackberry with Verizon & after speaking with someone from Verizon today, I've been informed that it'll cost me max 99 cents/minute for a phone call & 50 cents to send a text message & 5 cents to receive a text message. I know that even if I buy a calling card & use the phone in my stateroom I'll still be charged $8/minute - which defeats the purpose of buying a calling card at all, no? I went to Italy last year for a week & my cell phone bill that month was a little over $600. I'd like to not repeat that. :) (Even though my 99 cents a minute using my phone seems to be my best bet at this point).
In short, how much will the WiFi cost me, if it costs me anything at all? & whats the cheapest way to make a phone call on the cruise ship? (Sorry this is so long!) Thanks for any info!
Answer: You are correct about the wifi prices. It may vary ship by ship but you are in the ball park with the by the minute and package rates. Past cruisers that have something over 10 cruises on the same cruise line may get a free card for a certain number of minutes free.
A phone call from your room can be around $5 a minute. Many ships have cell phone service. It will cost about $2.50 a minute for voice and much less for text. It is billed by your cell phone company. Make sure you have international roaming turned on for your phone. Your cell phone company can give you the exact cost.
Once you are near a port then you can use whatever the international call rate for that country. It will be much less than the cost on the ship.
For Verizon go to this page about 2/3 of the way down to the cruise ship section.

Question: What's the cheapest and best dream vacation you've ever been on? I'm curious about some of the best prices found on travel - like cruises, all-inclusive resort packages, etc. What were some of the best values for first-rate vacations??
Answer: My wife and I saved up our Hilton points and spent four days in coastal Crescent City, CA.
$70 R/T air ... $0 hotel ... $120 four days car rental ... $30 gas ... $120 meals ...
$340 for four peaceful, relaxing, romantic days in a beachfront hotel with shopping and the redwoods nearby. Ahhhhhhh.
Question: Difference between online package price for Ha Long Bay 2D1N with hanoi street price? Will it be expensive if i take the USD120 for 2 Days 1 night trip with O/N on cruise? I am a solo traveller. Will it be cheaper if i get it from Hanoi after i reached there? Any recommendation?
Answer: You get what you pay for.
If you pay 120USD you are going to get a good trip that you will be happy with and have no complaints. If you shop around the streets and find a tour for 30USD you can guarantee that you are not going to be happy.
Halong Bay is a once in a lifetime opportunity so don't let a cheap tour ruin it. The suggestions above are for backpacker budget tours.
If I was going to spend over 100USD, I would be going for Emeraude Cruises, the boats out of Handspan tours or a package from Ocean Tours.
