Mexican Cruise Vacation
Question: Should i go on vacation on a mexican cruise if i don't drink ? Am i going to have?
Answer: I don't drink either and I have gone on several cruises. Royal Carribbean is my favorite cruise line and it's not just a bunch of party animals like some other lines. It really isn't that much of a problem and I bet that you'll have a great time!
Question: Mexican cruise this summer? We are in planning a family vacation for July. Myself, wife and 2 kids (13+12). Has anyone tried Royal, Carnival and/or Disney cruise line? Seems like a big jump in price from Disney to Royal/Carnival.
Answer: We've only cruised on Royal Caribbean. It's great for adults, and there is something always going on for the teen crowd. Nice ships and nice staff.
Question: Mexican Riviera Cruise shore excursions? My husband and I are going on a Mexican Riviera cruise with Carnival cruise line to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, and Mazatlaan. I was wondering if it's worth it to spend money to go on shore excursions or if there is enough to do without spending the money them. Are there nearby beaches to the port where the ship will dock so that we can just hang out on the beach and rent kayaks or jet skis? and any shopping and restaurants close by so that we can just walk? We mainly just want a relaxing vacation on the beach. And if we do decide to go on a shore excursion is it better to book with the Cruise line because they can be pricey...or can I find better deals off the ship? Thanks for any answers.
Answer: We feel that paying to see what we already paid to travel to is a waste. We always make or own excursion, that way you can see what you want and the walking is a great way to keep off the extra pound from all the great food you eat! All three of these ports are easy to walk and shop or just beach comb. Last time in Cabo, we went to Cabo Wabo and ran into Sammy Hagar, Had a drink at the bar with him and got pictures taken(not a big fan but it was too cool) Wouldn't get that on a ships tour! Go have fun and a cocktail for me. ENJOY!!!!!
Question: Vacation (spring break) question? Im looking for a vacation possibly mexican, caribean, cruise something
but here at the kickers there is 4 people 3 are 19 one is 18. and we want to be alone (no parents) and we want to be able to drink.
Answer: go to Rosarito in Baja California next to the beach, drinking age 18 =]
Question: my spouse wants to take a vacation and i don't, what would you do? My husband wants to take a mexican cruise in a couple months. I have no desire to go to Mexico, period. Two years ago he was working near the Mexicali border in El Centro, Ca. ....long story short, while he was down there, he went to a strip club in Baja, Mexico........more than once. I don't know if he did anything with any of the girls,........i have my suspicions. I found out from one of his co-workers' wife. Anyway.....the mere thought of Mexico makes me feel sick to my stomach. He knows i don't like to even hear the word. Anyway....is it disrespectful for him to even expect me to go? Or am i just being stupid? I really do not think it would be a good vacation because i will probably feel upset or sad the whole time. It still makes me feel ugly and undesirable, which he thinks is completely idiotic. What would you do?
Answer: Determining where to go on vacation is something that you two should do together. If one wants to go someplace and the other doesn't, then guaranteed BOTH are not going to have a good time. It's understandable that you don't want to go to Mexico and he's being unreasonable by not talking this out with you. I'm sure that if you both sat down and talked about vacation locations, you can both come up with someplace that would be agreeable to both parties.
Question: West Coast vacation ideas? 7-10 day trip? Usually we travel on the South/South East Coast, or we cruise the Caribbean. We are staying closer to home this year ...i.e. in the USA. We've cruised the W, E, and S Caribbean so we are going to give that a break, since flights are so expensive and we've visited many of the islands already.
I was thinking of traveling on the West Coast, as we have never been (except for a quick business trip).
Any one have ideas of cities to visit and things to do? Thinking of visiting N. California, Oregon, Washington, maybe crossing over to Canada. I've always been fascinated with Alcatrez and San Francisco. I don't know much about Oregon & Washington.
Other thoughts were visiting Southern California for a few days (my son really wants to visit LA), and then take a 4-7 day Mexican Riviera cruise.
The trip will be for myself, and my 16 year old son in June 09.
Any feedback on vacation ideas or destination cities would be appreciated. I'm pretty open as far as budget. Would like to stay around $2-3K if possible not including airfare & car rental.
Thanks
Answer: i live in so cal, and i think if you come down here you should do disneyland for sure. if your son isn't that into the disney thought, there is always Knotts berry farm. they have a more grown up group of rides and things to do. Also right around Knotts is all kinds of tourist type attractions. the wax museum, medieval times, and so forth. not to mention that Orange County is safer than LA.
LA has universal studios, and the surrounding universal city walk that's pretty fun. also in long beach there is the aquarium of the pacific. and if you come to so cal in the summer you re going to have to go to the beach. in orange county i would recommend Huntington Beach. LA i would say manhattan beach, or venice.
Question: i'm puzzled where to go. Central Europe or Los Angeles? Hi! I'm really balancing whether I should have a vacation in Los Angeles or in Central Europe. If I'd go to Los Angeles, I could have a 12 day vacation + a Baja-Mexican Cruise. But if I would go to Central Europe (Munich, Nuremberg, Prague, Vienna, Budapest and Salzburg), but it had always been my passion to go to castles, but my children wants to go to Disneyland and Universal Studios and Hollywood. I'd like to ask your opinions...
Answer: You can go and see the castles when the kids leave home.
They don't stay young forever
Question: Advice for cruise travel with young children? We've already booked a cruise on Norwiegan Cruise Lines to the Mexican Riviera. We're taking our 21 month old and almost 5 year old kids with us. We'll have extended family with us to help out as well.
I'm trying to think of everything we'll need and I'm sure there will be things that I can't come up with on my own. Any suggestions?
I've already bought the cloth swim diapers (they don't allow the disposable kind). I have water shoes for both kids. We have a brand new bottle of sunblock. We'll obviously take children's medicines with us just in case. We're driving their so we'll have some things to keep them entertained in the car.
It's difficult planning for such a multi-faceted vacation -car trip, hotel stay, cruise, and shore excursions. We've been on a cruise before, but never with kids.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
Answer: You already sound pretty prepared, the rest is really up to your parenting style!
As long as the kids see it as rewally fun, it won't be hard at all. The moment they get bored is when its going to be a parental nightmare.
If the cruise has a nanny-service for some of the time, that could give you guys some time off to do "grown-up things". Holidays with kids are a wonderful and bpnding experience, but it leaves very little time for the adults to actually do what they want to.
I hope you guys find the perfect balance! There is no advice I can give you that you probably haven't already considered :D
Question: Which cruise line is best? My wife and I are looking for a vacation ship that is not full of little kids, we want great food, cool partying for young adults, and not too many retirees. Anywhere for travel in the caribbean or Mexican Riviera. Any suggestions?
Answer: Cruises are a great way to experience a destination without being stuck there for your whole vacation. You may find you love one port, but don't really enjoy the next. But, no worries, you will only be there a few hours. The best part is for the ones you really enjoy you can always make a return visit. . What better place to spend time with your loved ones, it's romantic, there is nothing but you and your wife on a beautiful cruise with ocean just passing by.
Your situation is a little difficult since you are wanting to avoid a lot of kids, but still have a nicer cruise for young adults. Also, most of the lines that cater to a younger crowd don't offer food that is as good as some of the lines that cater to an older crowd. For example, Royal Caribbean and Carnival are very popular for families, kids and young adults. But, you will usually see a lot of kids onboard (in many cases they aren't well behaved) and the food isn't always the best quality. But, they offer more entertainment for young adults, night life, etc. Some of the nicer lines like Princess, Celebrity, Cunard, etc. which offer great food, don't offer as much to the younger crowd. You will see a lot less families onboard which means fewer kids, but sometimes they can be a little boring for couples looking for night life and entertainment for a slightly younger crowd. Then there are lines like Disney that kind of fall in between. Disney is great for kids, and their kids activities are so great that you don't see kids as often as you do on Carnival and Royal Caribbean, of course there will be some cases where you will see them. The food is pretty good, the service is great, they offer activities for adults only as well, but not always what everyone is looking at.
The best thing to do is look into some different lines, find a few that interest you and then look more into some of their ships. Then, look into what activities they offer onboard and see which one will interest you the most.
If you have done quite a bit of traveling I would suggest doing something a little out of the ordinary, the Caribbean cruises, etc are all quite common. I would suggest something that goes to the Mediterranean, or through the Panama Canal, Alaska, the Mexican Riviera, etc. These are all wonderful cruises to take, but they tend to run a little more than cruises that go to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, etc. but are well worth the extra money. These are also destinations that are a little more special, perfect for a special ocassion. But really, just about any destination you choose will be awesome.
As for lines, there are many out there. The two biggest things to consider are your age and how much you want to spend. Carnival is the lowest cost cruise, but being lower in cost means that it is also more appealing to younger travelers. You will see more college aged kids, young families, young couples, etc. then you will see on other lines. Because of the younger age range you will notice that partying, drinking, gambling, etc. are also more popular. The biggest thing to remember though that just because Carnival is the least expensive initially, once you factor in the things that Carnival doesn't include, it can end up being more than some of the other, nicer, lines. Carnival tends to be an Ala carte cruise meaning the very basics are included in your price and most everything else is extra. Personally, Carnival is my least favorite line, not quite as clean as the others, not quite the service, food, etc. but some people really like it, so it very much depends on the traveler. In my experience, Carnival has really declined in the past 10 years or so with their service and many other areas.
Royal Caribbean is a little more expensive and the average age will be closer to 30s or 40s (also remember the average age depends a lot of the cruise in general, for example older couples tend to travel to Alaska than do young couples and families) Here you are getting a slightly nicer line, with still many onboard activities, good ports, etc. This is still not one of my favorite lines, but I feel the extra money is worth it over Carnival. But, the food (on most of the ships, especially the ones without the signature restaurants) doesn't compare to some of the nicer lines, service could use some improvement, not quite as clean as some of the lines, etc.
Princess is a really wonderful line as well. This line is a little more popular with a slightly older crowd, I believe the average age tends to be 40s, 50s and 60s and up. The food is always great, the atmosphere is elegant, service is almost unbeatable. A few other lines I would put at this category, or possibly a little higher would be something like Cunard or Celebrity, both great lines, but a little more expensive. Just remember, that when you get into some of the more expensive/elegent lines, you are also looking at a slightly older onboard age, which means that the ship may not be as "party" oriented as some of the lines that appeal more to families and younger travelers. Be sure to look at some of the past activities that the ship has offered to see if it will be of interest to you. A lot of people go on Princess and don't like it because it is a quite, more laid back ship, if you want to really have fun, go dancing, party all night, etc. this may not be the best line. For example, you will find that on a lot of Princess cruises, the majority of passengers are in bed by 11 at night, so that means the ship is quite and you can have the whole ship, virtually, to yourself. Some people like to have the quite time to relax and enjoy the ship, others would prefer to be out and about.
Believe it or not, Disney is also a wonderful line. Even though most people think they are more for families and children, it is still a great line. You don't pay quite as much as some of the more expensive lines, but you still get really great service and some of the perks of the other lines. Disney is great because they have a kids friendly atmosphere, i.e. no smoking, gambling, etc. if you aren't into that type of thing. I remember going on my first Disney cruise after having been on some of the other lines for families, it just blows them away. The only problem is going on Disney as your first cruise, it can really spoil you for future cruises. Disney just goes over the top for everything they do, the shows are amazing, food is great, service is unbeatable, etc. After you have gone on Disney, if you go to some of the other lines, it can be dissapointing. You will be paying more, but the money is well spent, in my opinion.
So age is something to really consider. However, if you enjoy a more energetic atmosphere, go with the younger crowds, or vice versa, you like a more laid back relaxing atmosphere, go with the lines like Princess.
Also, keep in mind that the itinerary has a lot to do with which line. For example, Princess offers some of the best cruises to Alaska, while NCl offers some of the best for Hawaii.
Cruising really is a great vacation, one of the most relaxing you will ever have. So my suggestion, if you are just looking to get a taste of cruising, go with the lower cost cruises, just to see if you like it. Shorter cruises are less expensive, but the longer the cruise, the more the average per day cost is, so that is also something to keep in mind. Finally, if you are flexible, check with your travel agent for specials. Many companies will offer agents exclusive deals for last minute trips, and/or group rates for really great rates.
Also, remember, this is just a very basic beginning for the best lines. There are so many lines and cruise options, it is really hard to go into all the details in a semi-short answer. The lines I listed are just the more common cruises that are more for the every day traveler than someone wanting something different or unique from ordinary cruising.
Hopefully this answers your question and doesn't just all run together and make no sense. If you have any questions or I need to clarify something, please e-mail me, I'm glad to help!
I've also included a link to Cruise Critic, this is one of the most informative sites for each cruise line.
