Hawaii Cruises December
Question: Which of the 3 NCL ships we should cruise in Hawaii during December? My wife and I are planning a 7 night Hawaii Cruise for my 30th birthday in December. I am looking for some advice on which of the 3 ships we should take. We did cruise on the NCL wind in the Western Carib Jan of 04 and had a great time, so we know we do like NCL.
We are thinking of either:
Pride of America December 9th
Pride of Aloha - December 10th
Pride of Hawaii - December 11th.
Can anyone give me a good reason to choose one of these ships over the other two. We are experienced cruisers, (5 cruises in the last 3 years), and will be booking a balcony room on which ever ship it is.
Answer: There are a couple of things to look at? Do you want to sail out of Maui or Oahu.
Not all of them do 7 day.
I personally like the newest of th 3 ship. PRIDE OF HAWAII.
I have sailed on all 3. Pride of Aloha is a bit smaller & older, but still a great ship.
Question: Is good idea to take a cruise in Hawaii in December??
Answer: the pacific waters may be cold, but there probably wont be as many tourists... and it's still hawaii so it shouldn't be bad at all!
Question: Can we get a free upgrade on our cruise? I've heard of it but is it true and if so how do we do it.? We are going on a Norweigian Cruise - Pride of Hawaii in December 2007. We are getting married on one of the island's by someone local. Anyways, I was just curious to see if this was true and if so how do I do it. I read that you want to call the travel agent but my dad purchased the cruise through his Time Share people. Well any information would be awesome.
Thanks!!!
Answer: Norwegian has upsells and upgrades.
As the departure time of the cruise gets close, Norwegian will evaluate how the cabins are selling. If Norwegian needs more lower cost cabins, it will call some of the people that are already booked and offer them an upgrade at a reduced cost. This is called an upsell.
For example, say a balcony is $1000 per person and a suite is $1500 per person. Say there are more suites than Norwegian thinks it can sell prior to the cruise. However, Norwegian believes there are less balcony cabins available than it can sell prior to the cruise. So Norwegian wants to move some people up from a balcony to a suite so that it can sell the balcony to someone else.
Norwegian might decide to call someone who has a balcony. Most likely a long time customer or someone who booked early. Then Norwegian offers an upsell, say for $250 per person. This way the balcony person gets a suite for $1250 per person instead of the normal price of $1500 per person. Norwegian gets to sell the suite to someone and gets a little extra money for the suite (over the price of the balcony). Then Norwegian gets to sell the balcony to someone else who wants a balcony.
However, you are asking about a free upgrade. This rarely happens to someone who has booked a specific cabin (though it can happen). It more likely will happen to someone who booked a guarantee cabin. When you book a guarantee cabin, you don't book a particular cabin, you book a minimum cabin category that can be anywhere on the ship. You could end up in any cabin at that minimum category or higher (but never lower).
These are regularly offered for inside, ocean view and balcony cabins, and sometimes offered for suites. Usually the upgrade is within the same category. For example, you book an inside cabin guarantee. You are booked in the lowest level inside cabin. You could end up in the lowest level inside cabin or you could end up in a higher level inside cabin. It is still an inside cabin, just a higher level inside cabin (for example, on a more popular deck).
Sometimes there is an upgrade to a better category of cabin. For example, you book an inside cabin and get upgraded to an ocean view cabin. It is rare that an upgrade is more than one category (inside to ocean view, ocean view to balcony).
In either case you cannot just ask for a free upgrade (or Norwegian would be swamped with calls). All you can do is hope. It would not hurt to make sure Norwegian is aware that you are on your honeymoon. As a honeymoon present Norwegian might decide to upgrade you.
However, if the ship is selling well, no upgrades or upsells will be offered if Norwegian thinks they will sell out prior to the cruise.
Question: Want to have a Destination Cruise Wedding to Hawaii!? My fiance and I have been engaged for 2 years this December and we're ready to be married. We've gone through alot of stuff (such as moving, post-poning our fully-planned wedding, trying to buy a home, living with relatives, etc..) that has really disabled us to be able to get married. At this point we've both decided that eloping seems like the best choice for us. Going to Vegas has crossed our minds, but we have been wanting to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon for a long time. Also, at one point we had planned to go on a caribbean cruise for our less expensive honeymoon.
The alternative? A destination cruise to hawaii!!!!!! (Or perhaps some other caribbean/atlantic/pacific island)
We aren't going to have much money and are looking for the cheapest prices. Does anyone have any suggestions or alternate ideas that could help us out?
Any helpful advice would be appreciated! Thanks :)
Answer: My husband and I did a "runaway wedding" (just the two of us) this past February. We picked a 10-night cruise on the Emerald Princess and got married on a beach in St. Lucia. We absolutely loved everything about it...we would not change one thing. It was stress free and romantic (since it was just us).
As far as prices go, the cruises vary in price (depending on the cruise line, the age of the ship, the destination, etc). Our reason for a destination wedding: we wanted our ceremony to be extremely special and intimate. We did not invite anyone for the obvious reason...we wanted to be alone during our honeymoon. :) Our cruise was more expensive than some because, at the time, our ship was <1 year old and it was a 10-night (instead of 7-night)...and, of course, we HAD to have a balcony. :) The ceremony was inexpensive at around 2K or so. Depending on where you are from, air to and/or from Hawaii can be pricey...something to consider if you are trying to keep it under a budget.
You can definitely find inexpensive cruises to lessen the cost. Also, friends of mine were married in St. Thomas on a Carnival cruise and they absolutely loved their experience as well.
If you are considering this for real, I would definitely call around to different cruise lines to get their wedding information. They will all send you the different packages via email...so you can take a look for yourself.
Hope this helps! Good luck and congrats!!
Question: What cruise will get me from Alaska to Hawaii?!!!!? HELP MEEEEEEE!!! I have to go in December... My mom's afraid to fly...
Answer: There are no Alaska cruises in December. You would have to catch a repositioning cruise that will go from Alaska to Vancouver and then Hawaii and they are usually only offered once a year in the fall.
The Golden Princess is now making regular bi-weekly cruises from L.A. to Hawaii and back. I will be going in January. You will have to find a way to get her to fly to L.A.

Question: I have a BIG PROBLEM!? Ok here's the deal, my family and I are planning on going on a cruise to Hawaii from December 24 to January 7, it happens to be that on January 4 is my boyfriend and my one year anniversary :( its also christmas and my birthday is January 3 :( what am I supposed to do?!
Answer: just tell him about it and that you'll promise you'll celebrate after... and heres what i'd do:
when your in hewaii gather the small shells on the beach and string them together when you get back you have an authentic anniversary present that you made yourself, tell him that you couldn't stop thinking about him, if he likes you enough he'll understand and he'll treasure the present forever, i know i would
hope that helps
Question: Cruise for Sweet 16 in December?? I'm turning 16 December 1. At first I wanted to have a big bash, but then I thought it sounded kind of stupid to spend a lot of money on one night. I've been thinkng of going on a trip with a few friends, and I think a cruise would be the best bet. I've never been on a cruise, and I've never traveled the caribbean or hawaii or anything tropical like that.
So, where's the best place to go??
What's the best cruise line??
Also, I've been wondering about pay.... I want to invite at least 3 friends, but I think that might be too expensive for the cruise and the air fare. Do I ask them to pay air fare, or do I just tell my parents we have to pay for all??
By the way I live In San Francisco, so I would want to depart from LA or something.
Answer: You must be at least 21 to go on a cruise by yourself. So your parents will need to go with you. You also need to get a passport because most if not all cruise lines now require you to have them.
Question: i need info on the cruise ship "Pride of America"? im going on a cruise on the NCL cruise ship Pride of America in December, the cruise is in Hawaii and i was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers on fun stuff to do aboard the ship and also fun stuff to do on shore excursions. any info or websites would help me greatly.
Answer: While there will be activities onboard, since Pride of America spends most of her time in port the selection of onboard activities will be a bit sparse compared to other ships. They just don't have the need to keep their passengers entertained like other ships do.
The big thing about Pride of America is bring a lot of patience and understanding...
Question: vacation ideas!!!!!? okay well every summer, march break and christmas holidays me, my sister and my parents go on vacation together or with cousines. me and my sister are 14 and 15 btw. this christmas we have three options we dont know witch one to chose. we'd be going from december 27-january 3. witch do u think is best: a week in maui hawaii at a resort, a cruise through all of hawaii, or a caribbean cruise going through florida, haiti, jamaica, cayman islands and mexico?! we're trying to decide ont hese three!!
Answer: I would a Hawaii Cruise, they are getting very bad reviews. Actually NCL is pulling most of their ships/itineraries from their product line.
I woudl recommend a week in Maui, or a Cruise to Mexico, etc.
However, I cannot tell you which would be better as I do not know what you want to do while on vacation? Lay on the Beach? Visit historical Sites? Are you go, go, go people? Or just relax and enjoy people?
Have you ever cruised before? Sorry so many questions but they are very important in order to find you the perfect vacation to suit your needs!
