Question: What to do if you have an evening layover at Honolulu airport? We are arriving at Honolulu airport on Saturday @ 10:00pm and our connecting flight isnt until the next morning at 5:00am. I have heard that they close the airport and people tried to sleep there but get kicked outside and they even try to sleep in the garden at the airport... but apparently there are sprinklers on timers there?
Debating on staying at a cheap hotel for a few hours and get some sleep, and at least have a safe place for our luggage.. or is it better to try to hang at the airport after our first 7 hour flight there? Any suggestions?
Thanks so much!
Answer: I'd get the room with a comfortable bed, hot shower, place for the luggage, etc. You're going to be tired, and just a little rest will go a long way. Most will even throw in some sort of breakfast.
The couple of times I've spent the night in an airport, it was torture.
Question: Can someone recommend a cheap hotel close to the Honolulu airport? I just need to stay one night before I fly out to Kauai.
Answer: There are two Best Westerns near the airport, both aren't exactly cheap, and one looks kinda seedy, but they're convenient if you want to stay near the airport.
There is also the "Rain Tree". One in the airport itself and one off of Nimitz Highway. The one at the airport is great if you're only staying one night, but the one off of Nimitz is not all that appealing. There are alot of "long term" guests there of questionable background, and its not very secure.
There are a couple of places in town or in Waikiki that aren't too costly (Between $65 and $85 a night depending on the time of year), but then you lose the convenience of being near the airport, and a cab ride will run you close to $50 each way.
If you have military privileges, you can stay at the lodges at either Hickam AFB, Fort Shafter or the Fisher House on the TAMC (Tripler) grounds. I highly recommend the Fisher House.. built around WWII.. it has alot of the old airy feeling of hotels in that era. Its beautifully landscaped, and the rooms are quite nice.
Being near the airport isn't all its cracked up to be. Few if any real decent restaurants in the area, and the area isn't entirely visitor friendly. Its more of a business district, and the few places that are open at night you wouldn't want to bring your mom or your kids into.. if you know what I mean.
Question: How much is a cab ride from the Honolulu Airport to the Marriott Waikiki? I'm going out there on vacation. I lived there for awhile, but that was 12 years ago. There was flat rates but I'm sure they went up. I'm traveling with 3 other people.
Answer: i would recommend getting a shuttle from the airport to your hotel. i got a ride from a taxi from the airport to ala moana hotel(right next to the mall not quite as far as waikiki beach) and it was $27 but on the way back i got the hotel to send a shuttle they picked me up from the hotel and sent me to the airport for $9
heres a few out of my brochure
Kahala 5 Star Shuttle $8.99 (808)306-2100
Hawaii Super Transit $8.00 (808)841-2928
Discount Shuttles $6.99 (808)590-0700
or you can call your hotel
Question: Anyone know how much a taxi is from Honolulu airport to Ko Olina? Planning a small get together with about 8 couples...staying at the JW Marriott Ihilani in Ko Olina. Everyone will be arriving at different times and only 2 couples are renting cars. It seems all the shuttle services I've come across are $90 or more one way, so wondering if it just makes more sense for people to taxi to our hotel? If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it! Thanks ~
Answer: I don't know (except that it will be expensive), but here is a link that may be helpful.

Question: What is the best transportation from Honolulu airport to Waikiki?
Answer: the bus, depending on how much luggage you got, i have seen some people take small suitcases on the bus. $2.00 for the bus vs $40 for the taxi your choice And also too if you are planning to just stay around in the general honolulu area, I would just stick to riding the bus, it will save you a lot of money. I would just rent a car if you are planning on going to the north shore or windward sides of the island. Trust me the bus systems here are excellent (even though I have a car I take the bus all the time to work)
