Honolulu Tours
Question: What are the best places to go and the must-dos in Oahu, Honolulu? Like restaurants... best luau, tours? I heard about a bakery in Northshore... and I can't remember of a name of a local restaurant that is fabulous.
Answer: I believe the bakery you're thinking of is Ted's Bakery.
Places to Eat (with locations)
-Rainbow Drive Inn (Kapahulu)
-The Garlic House (Kaimuki)
-Genki Sushi (Kapahulu, Ala Moana, Ward, Windward City)
-Zippy's (all around Oahu)
-L&L Drive Inn (all around Oahu)
-Matsumoto Shave Ice (Haleiwa)
-Cholo's Mexican Restaurant (Haleiwa)
-Leanard's Bakery (Kapahulu)
-Shiro's (Waimalu)
-Shokudo (Ala Moana business center)
-Kim Chee II (Kaimuki)
-Big City Diner (Ward, Kaimuki)
Must-Dos (with locations)
-Swim the dolphins at Sea Life Park (Waimanalo)
-Hike Diamond Head (Waikiki)
-Check out the North Shore
-Go to the Pali Lookout (Pali Highway)
-Polynesian Culture Center (Kahuku...I think)
-Ride horses, go ATV'ing, etc. at Ko'olau Ranch (Ka'a'awa)
-Find your way out of the maze at the Dole Plantation (Wahiawa)
-Get a surf lessons or two (Waikiki, North Shore)
-Check out the Magic of Polynesia show (Waikiki Beachomber hotel)
-Shop (Ala Moana, Ward) <--Even though those two places have the most tourists, if you want to experience where non-tourists go, check out Kahala Mall, Pearlridge, Waikele Premium Outlets (ok, you'll find tourists here), and Windward Mall
As for tours...not sure about that one. At the hotel you're planning on staying at the concierge will know about tours.
Question: In just over 2 weeks I will be going to Honolulu. I know they have a variety of tours I can take. Which tour is the best to see patriotic places and which is the best tour to get a feeling for the whole island?
Answer: I was there for two weeks with my boyfriend (a native who had family there) and we did EVERY bloody tourist thing we could...and LOVED it! The cultural center, hiking the volcano, hitting the parks for scuba diving....I don't think you could go wrong. The helicopter rides sounds heavenly, but more fun and cheaper to do things by walking and driving. The Polynesian Cultural Center is the best place to feel the history! HAVE A BLAST!! and bring sunscreen!
Question: Is there any kind of bus service/ tours that would take a person from Honolulu to other tourist areas on Oahu? Are these companies reliable and is it worth the savings of not getting a rental car?
Answer: Probably but when I went there i hired a car - you can get them at a reasonable price on expedia and other sites. That way you get to see the whole of the island and not just the touristy bits, its great to just pull over to your own beautiful private beach I would definitley reccomend that! Also, when you get your hire car, if you take it back saying its making a funny noise etc, they give you a free upgrade with no questions asked. If you dont like the idea of saying that, always book the very cheapest car, i can guarantee you they wont have the cheapest car and so will upgrade you for free (although they will give the hard sell first to try and get you to pay for the upgrade). Enjoy!
Question: looking for not expensive tour on maui and honolulu, hawaii? my husband and i will take a cruise to hawaii. the shore excursions offered on the ship are pretty expensive. we will be in honolulu from 9am till 12am and in maui from 9am till the evening. the bus tours start at 6-7 am, and we don't want to rent the car. we even consider finding a private person with a car who can take us around and show the places of interest. any suggestions?
Answer: Just sit right back & you’ll hear a tale, a tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailing man, The skipper brave & sure.
Five passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour,
A three hour tour
The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The Minnow would be lost,
The Minnow would be lost.
The ship's a-ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan,
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
And the rest. (only in season 1)
The Professor and Mary Ann, (following seasons)
Here on Gilligan's Isle.
But seriously folks,
In Honolulu you will be docked at the Aloha Tower which is in walking distace to Chinatown and is a good place to wander around during the daytime (not at night).
You can take the bus just about anywhere. It cost $2 and you can get a free transfer when you board.
Places you can go on the bus:
Arizona Memorial Route 42
Waikiki route 42 (other direction) , routes 19,20, E. B,
You can take the circle island route 55 and go around the whole island, it takes about 3 hours. You can stop for lunch on the North Shore and see the BIG Waves.
Go here and look up routes and timetables etc http://www.thebus.org/default.asp
As far as Maui goes it depends on whether you dock at Lahaina or Kahului. I really don't know that much about Maui.
Question: The Grand island tour or the Honolulu tour with Pearl Harbor? I will definitely see Pearl Harbor, my dad served on the USS Missouri in the Korean war, I want to do the explorer tour, the other two tours are almost full day tours, I would need to go back to do the explorer tour. I only have four days, I want to see other things, thoughts on day long tours. Thanks, Cindy
Answer: Catch public transport "TheBus" to Pearl Harbor it will cost $2. You will be able to spend as long as you like there and then return back to Waikiki as you please. If you want to see the USS Arizona make sure you get there early to get tickets as they go fast.
I have been to Hawaii many times. Just be careful of those tours as you can do the same things yourself and go anywhere on the island using "TheBus" for $2
Question: how far away is waikiki and honolulu from each other? I am holidaying to Hawaii in August 2009 from Australia with my best friend and I was just wondering how far apart Honolulu and Waikiki are? Also, we want to climb Diamond Head, have heard good things about the views, where is this? What other things/tours should we do whilst there? Is there anything spectatcular that you just have to tell me to visit? I would love to know. Thanks!! :-)
OH also, what street is waikiki beach on? Which is the best beach to go to? Thanks!
Answer: From Waikiki to Honolulu...2 miles!! From the Airport to Waikiki 9 miles!! So much to do on 'Oahu!! It's endless!! The street is Kalakaua Avenue!! If you can get out of Waikiki to explore beaches...I would definitely go to Kailua Beach Park!! North Shore has beautiful beaches but a very strong under toe and current...so I would definitely take pictures and admire the beauty...but not step in the water!!
As far as what to do...I'm in the tourist industry so I always say this...
1) Arizona Memorial (either book a tour with a tour company...or catch the bus EARLY to get there. Arizona Memorial itself is FREE but can be an all day "standing in line" deal if you are not there early enough!!)
2) Polynesian Culture Center (it's a place that offer's you a look into the world of the Polynesian Islands...like Samoa, Tonga, Fiji, Tahiti...etc and after visiting each village you'll have dinner and a spectacular show which features the dances of these islands like the hula and tahitian and of course...the exciting fire knife dancing!!)
Just a FYI...if you plan to take the Circle Island tour as suggested by someone else...it'll take all day!! I would recommend you just renting a car (Advantage Car Rental has the best prices and deals) and going about the island yourself!! It's not easy to get lost and you can ask anyone for directions!! This way you get to stop and see what you want and stay how long you want!! That's the best way!!
Hope this helps!! Have a spectacular time!! I know you will!! Aloha No!
Question: Can somebody help to plan a tour to Europe in from either Honolulu or LA or NY? Europe tour to major touring spots of UK and Shengen countries by plane or train. How to go on a less expensive trip with a family of four?
Answer: Go to a travel agent, they are experts at getting the best prices and planning everything. and they are cheap too considering how much you save by planning with one.
Question: How far is the Dole Pineapple plantation from Honolulu? Does anyone know about how long it takes to get there? What all do you do there? How long does a tour or whatever last?
Answer: It takes approx 45 minutes from Honolulu to Dole Pineapple.
If you plan to go, better go early because there is so much to do there so you can easily spend a day. There are different tours there you can take (the pineapple train, maze tour and etc). You will learn all about pineapples :) By there way, here is a good article about pineapples you can have a look at too http://www.to-hawaii.com/agriculture/pin...
Question: How does one go on a Three Hour Tour out of Honolulu ?
Answer: with the skipper ofcourse..
peAce
Question: Can anyone help me find the best things to do in Honolulu. I am looking for stuff to do w/out guides.? I'm going to Honolulu in July. I was wondering if anyone can help me find stuff to do without guides or without tours. I am looking for cultural stuff and things that the local would do /places they would visit rather than tourist places. I was thinking maybe some places to swim some sightseeing. I don't really care for luxury and want to experience the true local culture, none of the turist stuff. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
Answer: Here are some good hikes that are easily accessible w/ a rental car & some also by bus. You can google the hikes for specific info.
1) Diamond Head - small fee for parking, access from Kaimuki side of DH. Some climbing, but still fairly easy hike. Hot - Bring water. Great views of Waikiki & east Oahu.
2) Makapuu - past Hawaii Kai, east Oahu. Some climbing, but still fairly easy hike. Hot - Bring water. Great views of Windward side & east Oahu.
3) Judd/Jackass Ginger - off Old Pali Road in Nuuanu. Easy hike, cross small stream on stones. Ends at small watering hole w/ small waterfall. Bring bug repellant. May be muddy.
4) Manoa Falls - back of Manoa valley. A little climbing, ends at waterfall with small pool. May be muddy. Bring bug repellant.
Art on the fence - on the weekends, local artists display their work for sale on the fence outside the zoo at Kapiolani Park.
Iolani Palace - built by the Kalakauas, home of the last reigning monarchs. Small entry fee. Stunningly beautiful. Knowledgeable docents. Great history. Tip: check out the gift store in the armory building for incredible Christmas ornaments.
Not so touristy beaches - try Kailua Beach or Lanikai. Very beautiful, medium waves, mountain backdrops. Google images of these beaches to check out pictures.
Lunch at the culinary institute at Kapiolani Community College. Good food, great prices. (link below)
Check out the Farmer's Market at the same college on Sat ams. (link below)
Enjoy your visit & don't be afraid to try some of the "touristy stuff", like Hanauma Bay, for instance, there is great snorkeling there. Small entrance & entry fees. Rent snaorkle equipment.
