Oahu Fun
Question: What are some free/lowcost activities to do on fun activities on oahu? I need help with thinking of something a 13 and 10 year old would enjoy doing.
Answer: The zoo in Waikiki is 6 bucks a person, and actually really cool- they have a huge african safari exhibit, and tropical birds just roaming around the zoo. You can get really close to the animals, so it's actually pretty exciting.
Somebody else mentioned Kailua beach park, which is awesome... about 30 minutes from Waikiki/Honolulu. You can rent surf boards for 10 bucks an hour and get a lesson in Waikiki, or just take them out to play and paddle around. It's cool to do this in snorkeling areas for kids who are too afraid to snorkle. They can paddle on their surf boards and look down at all the cool stuff.
boogie boarding at Kailua beach park is tons of fun, so I really suggest that.
As for climbing diamond head, I can't imagine any 13 or 10 year olds that would like that. It's not easy, and it's not enjoyable for those who don't like hiking. The view is great at the top, but how many preteens enjoy views?
Browsing through the tourist shops around Waikiki is really fun, even if you don't get anything.
I think you can probably keep your kids entertained for atleast a week by just being at the beach, but you could also go up to the north shore and look at the Dole [might be sunkist...] farm, or go to the Turtle Bay Resort and -pretend- you're staying there, they've got some cool waterfalls and slides to play in around the pool.
I hear theres a cool aquarium in Honolulu but I'm not sure where its at.
Also be sure to try some shave ice!

Question: What are fun and inexpensive things to do on Oahu with a year old baby? My sister is here from California and I don't know what is fun to do for all of us with a year old baby? We live here, but we don't leave base much.
Answer: the beach may be fun, as long as the baby doesn't put sand in his mouth! waikiki beach has too many rough waves, i suggest ala moana beach park.
the waikiki aquarium is small, mostly indoor, with lots of colorful fish and sharks for the baby to admire. she might like the seals too.
the honolulu zoo is fun
if the baby likes rides in the car, you could all take a drive to the North Shore.
there's moanalua gardens, it's shady with lots of trees and lots of grass for baby to run around in. bring some koi pellets so the baby can feed the koi in the pond there.
at the entrance to hawaii kai there is a beautiful river with a small island in the middle. there are tons of ducks, most babies are fascinated with ducks.
take the stroller and walk around outside.
at the Windward Mall in front of Borders there is a hawaiian-themed play area for toddlers. the baby might like to play there.
there are also a number of little kiddie rides, a pet store for the baby. lots of restaurants and stores you and your sister can browse in.
you can go to waiola shave ice, everyone likes a nice rainbow cone!
take a day trip to the hilton hawaiian village, the baby will like seeing all the waterfalls and the birds (penguins, ducks, geese, flamingos.) there is a little outdoor mall too.
and a free fireworks show on Friday nights, i don't know if the baby would like the fireworks
you can fly kites and have a picnic at kapiolani park.
have fun!
say hi to your sister and the baby for me! :)
Question: What are some fun things do or go in Oahu? I'm on my honeymoon and we've got a week to do nothing. Any ideas? Thanks!
Answer: don know

the locals love it
Question: What fun things are there to do in Honolulu on Oahu, Hawaii? My husband and I are going to go to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort and Spa for a week in Honolulu and were wondering if anyone had any suggestions of restaurants, snorkeling places, ropes courses, fun beaches, etc for us to do without going broke. Any suggestions? Thank you! :)
Answer: There's actually four sections of Oahu (going by shores):
-North Shore
-South Shore
-East Shore
-West Shore
(This has nothing to do with my answer, I just wanted to correct the third poster).
Anywhoo, you can buy an entertainment book, which is FILLED with coupons for everything you can imagine. Yes, you gotta pay for it but it's worth it.
http://www.entertainment-savings-offers....
After buying that, you can do whatever you want without going broke. I highly suggest you and your husband head out to Ku'aloa Ranch to horseback ride, go ATV'ing, kyaking, etc. It's a lot of fun.
Question: Scuba Diving info and fun things to do in Oahu, Hawaii.? Hello there,
I was certified as a PADI Open Water diver three years ago, and I am sorry to say that I have not done another dive since.
I will be traveling with my parents and some more extended family to Oahu, Hawaii this December and I am wondering if there is anyone who can give me any diving information.
i.e.
-Good places for a beginner, open water diver to dive – I may have a partner, and I may not so if you could suggest some good dive shops that would take me out as a solo person, that would be fantastic.
-Price ranges
-Things that can be seen at different dive sites – I am a huge turtle fan and I am not afraid to experience a shark dive.
-Educational places that I could network with other divers, people involved with marine conservation down in Oahu.
-Fun places to go for educational purposes (ocean life based)
The ocean is my one true love and I want to experience as much educational and fun things that have to do with ocean life in Hawaii. Either as a solo person, or drag my family along. Any fun travel info is also welcome.
THANKS
-Alysia
Answer: Get in touch with a reputable dive shop in the area you are staying in. Most shops offer boat dives where you will dive with 4-5 other people in a group. A typical, two tank boat dive will meet around 7am, get everyone's gear together and on the boat, get out to dive spot #1 and do the first of two dives. The first is typically deeper/more bottom time. Then you'll surface, get snacks, and proceed to site #2, which is typically shallower/shorter. A good shop will ask divers what they're interested in seeing and cater the dive spot to the group (and weather) as much as possible.
A two tank boat dive will usually fall in the $100-135 price range.
This doesn't cover everything, but hope it helps a little bit. I recommend getting a guidebook (my choice would be Oahu Revealed - the Ultimate Oahu Guidebook from http://www.wizardpub.com - sold at Barnes & Noble) and reading recommendations on dive shops and what to expect and go from there.
Enjoy your trip!
Question: What are some fun things to do in Oahu? It's gotta be cheap but fun! Oh, and it's a family trip.
Answer: one for me is take a drive to kahuku and eat the shrimps from the little bus things, sure it don't sound good but trust me it is really good, then go to ''Weimea bay'' and jump of the rock the best way to have fun over their is to do the things as the other people are doing but please practice because i don't want to see this in the news paper the next day ''tourist jumped of Weimea and is in severe condition'' o.k.
One of the other things I like to do is go to the mililani golf choars and have a bite at the great Philipino food or just shop at the malls. If you have men in youre family tell them this their should be a paint ball thing happening when you go some where in Haleiwa but I dont know when you are going to bad ya. these are just some of the things I can think of right now so if you want moe give me an E-Mail and trust me youll like them all if you give me one
Question: What are the fun things to do in Oahu in this time of year with Kids? If you have Web references describing activities in detail, please send them over,
thanks in advance
D
Answer: -there's the manoa christmas parade on saturday, Dec 12 at 5 PM
-the windward mall has a "snow holiday tree" that snows bubble foam--very fun for kids! (until Dec 24, first 15 minutes of each hour 1-8 PM)
- a public Christmas performance at centerstage of Ala Moana Shopping Center called the "Christmas Gift of Aloha", i think it's every night
-check out the christmas lights downtown at honolulu hale and the christmas tree displays (kids will like seeing all the different decorations)
-drive around the island! you can stop at dole pineapple plantation (where there's the world's largest maze) kualoa ranch (where Jurassic Park was filmed), the beach, macadamia nut farm, Matsumoto's Shave Ice, and Haleiwa!
-Hike up Diamond Head! The trail isn't too steep, but go early, bring water, snacks and flashlights for the two dark tunnels
- go to the Honolulu Zoo! they have a good children's zoo for younger kids and an african savanna
- bishop museum! right now they have a temporary exhibit on Megaladon, the world's biggest prehistoric shark. There's also a small planetarium, Science Adventure Center, and Hawaiian/ Polynesian Hall
- take a walk through waikiki and watch hula dancing and the street performers!
- go to the beach! Ala Moana Beach Park is especially good
here's a link to my website (it might be good for you guys)
It's not finished yet, but some info u might find helpful :)

Question: What fun stuff can I do in Oahu, Hawaii??? I will be visiting Oahu in a couple of weeks.. and i am not sure how long my stay will be.. But what are fun, cheap things that i can do?? I am a student, so i dont have much to spend :P
I hope to do parasailing, how much would something like that cost??
Thanks for any advice, info and tips.. I appreciate it! ciao
Answer: well, for parasailing you just need to rent one for about 30 dollars. for a student i suggest going to the beach you cant beat that hawaiian sun. and if you want some informational things you could check out bishop museum for about $5.00 and iolani palace for about the same amount.
Question: What is the best beach to surf for fun waves in Oahu?
Answer: Well, first let's define "fun wave". Are we talking one to three feet? Six feet? Sixteen feet? Twenty-six feet plus?
Boogie board, shortboard, or longboard?
In the summertime, surfers hope for waves in the 3-6 feet range for boogie boarding and longboarding on the "Town" side.
In the winter, monster surf can come pounding into the North Shore spots: Sunset, Banzai Pipeline, Waimea Bay. Sometimes the waves are big enough to run the Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational in Memory of Eddie Aikau. I've even been to Waimea when the waves were too big to hold that event. They wouldn't even let me use the bathroom at Pupukea Beach Park, it was that closed on January 29, 1998.
Sometimes, east and west-facing shores get decent waves. I love to stand with a boogie board in waist-deep water on the windward side, wait for a wave to be on the verge of breaking above my head, jump up, catch it, and let it beach me. Beats kicking out to the break at Diamond Head!
Then too, it just depends on the day. There are surf reports on the internet, the radio, and the TV in Hawaii to let you know what the surfing conditions are like around the island.
There used to be a cell phone commercial where a guy was calling all over the island to see what the surf was like. "Junk." "Nothing here." When he got the girl that didn't answer her phone because she had her surfboard and was running toward the water, he turned his jeep around!
Question: Is Oahu Hawaii a fun family place? I'm going and it sounds like a blast! Is it perfect? Please give me some answers!
Answer: it's not perfect, but we had a great time there this past November! My oldest daughter and I took my 2 grandson's, ages 12 and 6, for 10 days. We climbed Diamond Head, went to tons of beaches (our favorites were Waimea Bay and Waikiki Beach), ate Dole Whips at the Dole Plantation, visited the Byodo-In Buddhist Temple, wandered around Chinatown, visited Pearl Harbor, drove the Pali Highway, shopped at the International Market and lots of other stuff. There ARE lots of homeless people there and it was dirtier than we would have thought. But, all in all, we had just the best time!
